2022 Marks 11th Straight Year of Growth in Average Base Salaries
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA) today released the 2022 Spring-Summer MLSPA Salary Guide. The release contains Annual Base Salary and Annual Guaranteed Compensation data for the 841 players under contract with Major League Soccer (MLS). All data is as of April 15, 2022.
This release marks the 16th straight year of the MLSPA providing salary transparency for players, agents and fans. Visibility into player compensation around the league empowers MLS players and their agents to negotiate for wages that represent their true comparative market value.
"As a former MLS player, it's encouraging to see what we have expected, the continued growth in player salaries across the roster over the last five years," said MLSPA Player Relations Director Ty Harden. “Moving forward, we expect a continued commitment to invest in the players that are the pivotal force in driving the league forward.”
In 2022, the Average Base Salary for Senior Roster Non-Designated Players experienced double digit growth from $397,753 in 2021 to $438,728 in 2022. A League-wide analysis of the salary data shows salaries for players in roster spots four through 18 grew on average more than 10% per year over the last five years. The Average Base Salary for Senior Roster Non-Designated Players of $438,728 in 2022 marks the eleventh consecutive year of growth.
