Player Relations Manager - International

The Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA) is seeking candidates for a Player Relations Manager - International based in its Bethesda, MD headquarters. Formed in 2003, the MLSPA is a labor organization and is the exclusive bargaining representative for MLS players.

The role of the Player Relations Manager - International is to enhance communication among international players and MLSPA player representatives and staff. The PRMI needs to build and foster relationships with players from across the league, with a heavy emphasis on Spanish and Portuguese speaking players. The MLSPA will rely on these relationships and understanding of

issues from a player’s perspective in order to bargain, solve player problems, and disseminate information to the full player pool.

Candidates must have a native Spanish language level fluency.


● Communicate regularly (in-person, by phone, by text, and in writing) with players across the league with a focus on Spanish and Portuguese speaking players

● Foster relationships among the player pool to expand the MLSPA’s impact and increase player involvement with the MLSPA, in particular among international players

● Stay abreast of the happenings in the league on and off the field

● Serve as an internal office consultant with regard to players’ perspectives

● Conduct various player surveys and answer player questions that arise regarding CBA rights/ benefits, travel, and moving expenses, flights/seats, vacation time/time off, etc.

● Assist in communicating with league, teams, and agents when needed

● Assist in communicating CBA rights to players when necessary

● Assist in planning for and creating a meeting plan and scheduling for MLSPA interactions with players, including meetings with teams in DC, In-Market Team Meetings, Pre-Season Team Meetings, Rookie Symposium, and annual Player Rep Meeting.

● Assist in translating short documents or communications and interpreting other conversations and meetings

● Manage disciplinary actions against players, including staying abreast of fines and suspensions and informing players of their rights and assisting with appeals

● Manage workers compensation claims and issues

● Attend meetings and stay abreast of FIFPro and other international issues

● Assist with the advancement, communication of, and utilization of the MLSPA’s Career Development Program


● Native-level Spanish language fluency

● A strong service mentality with a desire to work in a cause-based organization

● Excellent communication skills

● Strong interpersonal skills

● Understanding of professional soccer and familiarity with Major League Soccer

● Capable in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

Value Add:

● Proficiency in other languages, especially French and/or Portuguese

● Professional soccer or other sports background

● Previous experience working with and assisting professional athletes

● Familiarity and experience with the mission and function of labor unions

● Existing relationships within the MLS player pool
