The Director of Player Programs will manage the MLSPA’s programs and relationships related to its members’ lives away from the game of soccer. Central to this role is direct management of the PA’s Career Development Program, which assists players in preparing for their lives after their playing careers. The Director of Player Programs will report directly to the PA’s Executive Director, and will have one direct report to start, as well as responsibility for managing relationships with multiple partners and vendors.


● Evaluate existing MLSPA programs and resource partners and develop a roadmap to grow and strengthen the off-field programs and services that the MLSPA provides to players

● Cultivate new, and grow existing, relationships with the MLSPA’s off-field resource partners

● Evaluate proposals from new organizations and resource partners seeking to work with the MLSPA and MLS players

● Synthesize all of the MLSPA’s non-soccer related partnerships and relationships into a cohesive and well-defined Player Programs Department

● Provide recommendations on the structure and growth opportunities for the Department

● Serve as the internal expert and point person on all non-soccer related player programing and resource partners

● Manage and lead MLSPA player development staff, partners and vendors

● Advise MLSPA leadership on player development programing and resource partner selection

● Represent the MLSPA at key industry events

● Form relationships and develop best practices with player development teams at other players associations and external organizations


● Bachelor’s Degree

● Minimum seven years’ experience working in sports at the collegiate or professional level

● Hands-on experience working with and advising college and/or professional athletes

● Proven track record of building and managing resource partner relationships

● Self starter with the ability to build and lead a department

Value Add:
